Description
Belik was born around January 2018 and she was spayed in December, 2018. She was living on the streets as a stray and was hit by a car in March 2019. Her x-rays showed a vertebrae S1 fracture in her lower pelvic area.

After the accident, she remained paralyzed in her hind end for a few weeks. However, with treatments and massages and a lot of effort from the girl who rescued her from the streets, a month after the accident she got up and started slowly walking.

As for her daily routine, we would suggest that she go for walks but not rough-house with other dogs or participate in jumps etc. to avoid fracturing the same vertabrae again as no surgery was performed. Doing so could have let to her being permanently paralyzed. As can be seen in the video, the fracture has healed and she has good mobility. She should wear booties when walking on rough surfaces to protect her feet pads, especially the back left paw which was damaged in the car accident. In one of the pictures she has a protective bandage on it.

Because of her injury, when she goes for too many hours without a walk outside, she has incontinence with her bowel movements and urination. Therefore, Belik needs a home with someone around during the day and a safe fenced yard so she can go out regularly to do her bathroom needs. Normally she doesn't have accidents if she gets outside.

Belik is spayed, up to date with vaccinations and micro-chipped. She weighs about 20kg. She needs a family who will accept and love her as the sweet dog she is. She's adorable, very friendly and caring. She is okay with small to medium size dogs but large dogs can sometimes scare her. With cats she has an issue, seeing them as toys to play with, so a home without cats is needed.

Belik isn't on any medications but it would likely be beneficial for her to take some vitamins and supplements while she's still young to help with potential osteoarthritis down the road, as a result of her past injury and, being she likes the water, it would also be helpful if she could partake in some water therapy.

Please, let me know if you might be interested in giving her a home. She’s young and is a nice dog, deserving of a chance at a good life.

If you're interested in her I can email you a video which shows how mobile and happy she is (it's too big to load to her posting).

Please email diannealdan@sympatico.ca for an adoption application.
